La Shunguit o shunguita es un mineral orgánico de origen dudoso, hay dos teorías, que nace de los microorganismos de los fondos de los océanos en época muy antigua o de un meteorito, los científicos se decantan por el origen meteoroide porque sólo existe en una mina en el mundo, en Karelia, Rusia, bajo el lago Onega y alrededor de éste, 3/4 partes de la región los ocupa la superficie de la shunguit.

Es negra y su superficie es aterciopelada, tiene como venas blancas que son de esteatita, llamada piedra jabón, esta piedra coge mucha temperatura y la mantiene. Tiene características únicas, su composición es carbono 60, es el único mineral que contiene fullerenos, moléculas de c60, su estructura contiene 12 pentágonos y 20 hexágonos, es una composición celular única, que, sólo aparece en elementos creados por el hombre. Tiene todos los elementos químicos terrestres y es  una increíble conductora eléctrica, aún más que el oro.

El lago Onega en Rusia, a pesar de estar en zona industrializada, tiene premios por la calidad de sus aguas gracias a la filtración natural de la shunguita. 

Ha sido usada desde el siglo XVI para purificar el agua, curar de enfermedades y fortalecer el cuerpo. Tener una shungita hace efecto filtro, absorbe radiaciones y energías negativas, hace de barrera electromagnética, y lo devuelve en forma positiva.
